benefts of e-learning (2)

Benefits of e-learning (2)

1. Flexibility
2. Technology
3. Range of resources
4. Cost?
5. Immediacy/currency

I have listed what I consider to be the top five benefits of e-learning.

Apologies it has taken me a little longer than expected to post this update.
I have spent to much of the past 36 hours sleeping - in part due to jet lag.
Looking again at my top five I would suggest that they could be reordered. However, I am going to continue with the list in its current order.

Cost? The question mark is intended to highlight the variability of this benefit. Since the production of the first computers there has been an obvious decrease in the cost of access to technologies. Cost today requires the consideration of many other factors, such as subscriptions, contracts and the purchase of devices to enable students to access the e-learning content. Cost varies across countries as does also the accessibility to technology. The main reason I have included cost is that it is an inexpensive method to reach a audience in almost any location at any time.

Immediacy/currency information put into an e-learning environment can easily be updated. Information can also be added and published in a relatively short time. The speed and distance (time & geographical) over which ideas can be transferred and shared, is a benefit that has contributed to the large number of innovations seen across the world in recent decades.

There are many other benefits but one that I would also take time to mention is the Geographical benefits. I think that this can be closely linked to benefit five but it can also stand independently.

Benefits of e-learning

1. Flexibility
2. Technology
3. Range of resources
4. Cost?
5. Immediacy/currency

I have listed what I consider to be the top five benefits of e-learning.

Flexibility is my top one because e-learning allows education to take place anywhere at any time.
Technology is next. Yes I am a technophile. Unfortunately work plus other commitments do not allow me the time to play around with new technologies as I would like. E-learning encourages me to look at what is now available and points to web tools I might like to try.
Range of resources. I am not really sure why I made this number three. The term resources to me refers to the means by which e-learning can be accessed. Email, Blackberry, Telephone. There is a definite crossover with Technology but also some key difference.

My working day is beginning now, so I shall post an update blog with the final two and a proper self introduction tomorrow morning.
